IPLex StarTM

Our IPLex Star service uses Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology to provide point-to-multipoint broadband circuits over a large geographic region, via a hub-and-spoke network topology. Using C- or Ku-band satellites with wide, regional footprints, IPLex Star deploys quickly, scales easily and delivers data connectivity far more efficiently than terrestrial networks -- reaching locations where it is too difficult or costly to use any other means. Remotes can easily be added or moved from one location to another without purchasing additional bandwidth.

IPLex Star supports simultaneous data, voice and video applications on a single platform for efficient, cost-effective point-to-multipoint IP communications. Verestar provides connectivity from a central site to multiple remote sites via broadband symmetric or asymmetric outbound and inbound satellite carriers.

Features and Benefits:

  • Point-to-multipoint or point-to-point communications via satellite
  • 64kbps to 9 Mbps outbound and 64kbps to 4 Mbps inbound
  • Dynamic satellite bandwidth allocation
  • Advanced turbo coding and Quality of Service (QoS) techniques
  • TCP acceleration techniques
  • Turn-key network design and installation
  • 24 x 7 support for turn-up and commissioning
  • 24 x 7 monitoring from Network Operations Center (NOC)

Maximizing Efficiency While Minimizing Cost
To enhance efficiency, bandwidth on both the outbound and inbound carriers is shared among remotes and dynamically assigned on an as-needed basis, allowing all remotes equal access to the satellite resource. The IPLex Star platform uses a powerful Quality of Service (QoS) mechanism that prioritizes traffic depending on network design requirements, ensuring each user on the network receives the desired service level.

IPLex Star bundles together an array of services, including:

  • Point-to-multipoint satellite bandwidth
  • Teleport services
  • IP connectivity via multi-homed Tier 1 Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
  • Customer Premise Equipment (CPE)
  • Collocation of equipment at Verestar teleport location
  • Terrestrial backhauls
  • Cross connect to local loop provider
  • Local loop connections (terrestrial or wireless)
  • Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

IPLex Star Occasional Private Network

Offers Broadband IP on an occasional-use and on-demand basis. It is ideal for television and film production teams who require IP connectivity from remote production sites, or sites that do not have last mile connectivity. On-demand IP service is available on an hourly or short-term basis. In North America, service is provided in T1 (1544 kbps) and half-T1 (768kbps) bandwidths and in Europe, service is provided in E1 (2048 kbps) and half-E1 (1024kbps) bandwidths.

Occasional Private Network incorporates the iDirect Net Modem II technology, and offers the option of using Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) gateways. The equipment takes up less than half a rack of space at the customer end. For customers looking for a portable uplink system that requires little set-up time, Verestar provides the TracStar antenna with automatic satellite acquisition. When placed on a stable surface, the TracStar system will automatically point
to the Verestar satellite and access the transponder. All that is needed is an open view to the southern sky.

A Cisco VoIP gateway at the remote end can be used to add voice lines to the broadband service. These voice lines may be connected to the customer’s private network or to the public telephone network through an SES AMERICOM teleport in the U.S. or Europe.

Components required onsite include cabling between the TracStar antenna and the iDirect NetModem, and between the NetModem and the Cisco VoIP gateway. Billing for the Occasional Private Network service is based on usage and the minimum billing increment is one hour. There is no minimum monthly fee. Special event billing is available, if ordered in advance.

IPLex Star Global Private Network

Our  IPLex Star Global Private Network provides point-to-multipoint broadband IP connectivity via an iDirect Technologies platform. An array of C- and Ku-band satellites are used to provide global coverage and allow users to be deployed rapidly, no matter where in the world they may be located. Users can move from one location to another and resume service far more quickly and efficiently than they could via a terrestrial-only solution. We provide the hardware required to access the Global Private Network quickly and easily via a pre-engineered remote hardware package. This pre-engineered solution includes a satellite antenna, which can be either fixed or mobile; a Block Up-Converter/Down-Converter (BUC); as well as all of the
required cables and connectors. The mobile antenna option includes a self-pointing antenna that automatically finds the satellite within 15 minutes. This remote kit, either C- or Ku-band, can be used at any location within the SES AMERICOM Global Private Network.

Powered by iDirect Technologies
The core of our solution is the iDirect Technologies NetModem II Plus Satellite Broadband Router. The unit connects the outdoor satellite equipment to the Local Area Network (LAN) and provides routing capabilities along with a strong TCP acceleration technique that greatly enhances the user experience for web browsing and file transfer applications. For voice applications, the NetModem II Plus receiver prioritizes voice traffic to provide the best-possible voice quality.
