GE Americom Announces Plans For GE-2E To Expand European Capacity

June 27, 2000 - Princeton, NJ

GE American Communications (GE Americom), a GE Capital company, announced today plans to launch GE-2E, an all Ku-band satellite to serve the rapidly growing European market. GE-2E, GE Americom's second payload over Europe is planned to begin operation from 24* W.L. beginning 4th quarter 2002. The satellite is expected to meet the delivery needs of broadband data and Internet content and service providers in addition to cable and broadcast television programmers across Europe, including Scandinavia and the Middle East.

"GE-2E is expected to address the growing demand for high power capacity to serve the European region," says Andreas Georghiou, Senior Vice President, Global Satellite Services for GE Americom. "Once launched and operational, GE-2E will provide a highly reliable state-of-the-art home for our rapidly growing base of customers seeking broadband data, cable and broadcast television distribution options in Europe."

GE Americom's current European capacity, GE-1E at 5* East, is nearly full. "It is clear that there is a growing demand for satellite bandwidth as an essential link for Internet related services in this region as evidenced by our customers Cidera and InterPacket," said Eddy Frankland, Managing Director, European Sales, Global Satellite Services.
