A&E TELEVISION NETWORKS SIGNS WITH SES AMERICOM FOR NEXT GENERATION SATELLITE SERVICE
The History Channel® Secures its Address in Premier Cable Neighborhood
PRINCETON, NJ August 7, 2003 - SES AMERICOM, an SES GLOBAL Company (Luxembourg and Frankfurt Stock Exchange: SESG), announced today that New York-based A&E Television Networks (AETN) has signed a long-term service agreement for follow-on C-band transponder capacity on AMC-11, the successor satellite to Satcom C-3. Beginning in 2004, this higher-powered satellite will be used for the distribution of AETN?s The History Channel programming.
?The History Channel brings unique and valuable programming to our premier cable neighborhood at 131 degrees and 135 degrees W.L., connecting viewers to significant events of the past while enhancing their understanding of them,? said Carl Capista, AMERICOM?S Vice President, Media and Entertainment Services. ?Continuing The History Channel?s programming distribution on AMC-11 solidifies our long-standing relationship and allows AMERICOM to continue to offer the greatest variety of programming to the cable headend.?
?When determining our future distribution needs and expectations, SES AMERICOM is clearly our best choice for distribution of The History Channel East Coast Feed,? said David Bellingham, AETN?s Vice President, Engineering Planning & Development. ?AMERICOM?s extraordinary record of reliability in launching and maintaining the operational quality of their satellites made them a natural selection for us.?
AMC-11, an all C-band next generation satellite planned for operation in 2004, will have 24 transponders and will be located at 131 degrees W.L. To further ensure the delivery of customers? programming, AMC-11 features a higher level of on-board redundancy than the previous generation. Plus, an in-orbit protection satellite, AMC-7, which operates at 137 degrees W.L., is available if necessary for full satellite restoration. Programmers can use AMC-11 operating at 131 degrees W.L. to distribute content to more than 80 million American homes. Paired with AMC-10 located at 135 degrees W.L., these satellites make up AMERICOM?s premier cable neighborhood.
