South Mountain Earth Station
South Mountain Earth Station is one of the major GE Americom earth stations. It is about 50 miles west of Los Angeles, near Somis, California. It is a gateway facility to the Pacific Rim, Hawaii, and Alaska. A large amount of international and domestic video is handled by the site, along with data and other miscellaneous traffic.
The station first opened in 1974, and the original building was a mirror image of the original Vernon Valley building. The site has grown from the original TT&C antenna and communications antenna to over 17 antennas, and the building has been expanded to over twice its original size.
