GE Americom Introduces IPConnect tm ? for High-Speed Internet Access

GE American Communications (GE Americom) announced today that it is providing global customers with high-speed broadband access to the U.S. Internet backbone using a new service called IPConnect tm.
IPConnect utilizes the latest in Internet-over-Satellite technologies to permit the transmission of wideband data and Internet services at rates as fast as 45 Mbps. "We believe that satellite technology, especially when coupled with customized bandwidth solutions, has tremendous value in delivering broadband Internet service to customers around the world. We are extremely pleased that the new IPConnect service allows GE Americom to serve the Internet needs of a global community with the quality service for which GE Americom is known," says Emmett Hume, GE Americom's Senior Vice President, Marketing. Through IPConnect, GE Americom is the sole provider of broadband access into the U.S. Internet backbone for the country of Greenland. TELE Greenland Inc., an ISP based in Nuuk, Greenland, has implemented IPConnect to enable Greenland's 59,000 people high-speed access to the World Wide Web. Customers of TELE Greenland have access to a full time, asymmetrical satellite channel on the GE-2 satellite between GE Americom's New York City Metro gateway and TELE Greenland's Sondrestrom Earth Station.
