GE Americom Announces New Occasional-Use Service for the European Market on GE-1E
LONDON, ENGLAND, May 25, 1999
GE Americom, a GE Capital business, announced today a new service offering for occasional use on the GE-1E satellite located at 5 degrees East. Dedicated Ku-band capacity is available to European uplinkers for occasional analogue and digital services like Satellite News Gathering (SNG), special event coverage, IP compatible multimedia and software distribution as well as other ad hoc applications by broadcasters, corporations and news agencies operating from fixed and mobile locations throughout Europe.
This new service will offer uplink service providers a competitive occasional use price/ performance value in Europe today. Discounts will be available to customers committing to bulk hour packages or full transponder multiplex services. To ensure satellite transponder availability, a dedicated pool of occasional GE-1E transponders will be made available to implement this new service. Initially users will book the service through GE Americom's London office; toll-free, 24-hour booking and access will be made available later this summer. GE Americom further supports the occasional customer community by offering favourable financing terms for equipment and mobile uplink units.
"This is the first in a series of new service introductions targeted to uplink service providers in Europe," said V. Michael Agostinelli, Vice President and General Manager - Europe, GE Americom. Agostinelli added, "This additional occasional space segment on GE-1E dedicated to our European uplink service partners will help provide their customers with the flexibility they require to develop high value service solutions and immediate coverage of events as they happen."
Occasional services will expand the product bouquet of satellite uplink providers enabling digital business television services, distance learning, and distribution of data services for business Internet, Intranets and e-commerce applications. This new offer reflects GE Americom's belief that satellites play a crucial and growing role in cost-effectively meeting the time-sensitive multimedia and data distribution needs of businesses and organizations.
