GE Named 'America's Most Admired Company' in Fortune Magazine Survey for Second Year in a Row
New Jersey-based GE Americom Offers Best in Industry Service
PRINCETON, NJ, February 12, 1999
Fortune magazine announced this week that General Electric is "America's most admired company," according to a survey of the country's leading business men and women. GE has now won the honor for two years in a row.
Fortune's annual ranking in its March 1 issue, which will be on newsstands February 15, is based in the tabulation of more than 10,000 ballots sent to executives, directors and securities analysts who were asked to select which companies, regardless of industry, they admire most.
"For the second year in a row," Fortune reports, "General Electric is Fortune's most-admired company, winning praise for its value as a long term investment, and, naturally, for the quality of management under CEO Jack Welch."
"Being again named 'most admired' by Fortune is a great way to start the year," said John F. Connelly, Chairman and CEO of GE American Communications (Americom). "Our employees, most of whom are here at Americom's headquarters in Princeton, are working every day to find new and better ways to serve our customers. Since some of our customers took part in the survey, this recognition is real cause for celebration." Connelly continued "GE's famous Six Sigma quality program is reflected in the company's high marks as well as in Americom's satellite fleet which has the highest availability in the industry."
The Fortune honor mirrors the results of a Financial Times survey released late last year. The international financial publication named GE the most respected company in the world, noting that GE received twice the votes of any other company in the survey and that Jack Welch was cited as the most admired CEO.
With over 20 years of experience, GE Americom is recognized as a pioneer and a leading provider of global satellite communications solutions. With an expanding fleet of high performance spacecraft, these solutions primarily provide the distribution of broadcast and cable television programming and digital/Broadband Data Services over satellite. GE American Communications became a member of the General Electric family in 1986.
