GE Americom Reinforces European Presence
PRINCETON, NJ, March 23, 1999
GE American Communications (Americom) announced the expansion of its European operations with the appointment of Michael Agostinelli, as the vice president and general manager, Global Satellite Services - Europe. Based in London, Agostinelli will lead Americom's European sales, marketing and business development team which includes staff in London, Athens, Budapest, Munich and Prague.
"Since GE-1E became operational early last year, it has become increasingly clear that the satellite distribution and services opportunities throughout the European region are diversifying and growing," said Andreas Georghiou, Americom's senior vice president, Global Satellite Services. "With Michael at the helm, we expect to add to our list of satisfied customers and expand our solution set for the broadcast, cable, Internet, and business sectors," he continued.
With almost two decades in the satellite industry, Agostinelli draws upon international business development and sales as well as financial and operations experience. Most recently as the Vice President and General Manager of GE Capital Spacenet Europe, Agostinelli led the acquisition of the PSA Peugeot Citroen dealer communication network and the acquisition of the Bosch Telecom satellite network division.
Americom's GE-1E satellite provides high-powered Ku-band service to European and Middle Eastern markets from the 5 degree East orbital position. Some of the regional and international customers and services on the satellite include BBC's Merlin services, Turner's Cartoon Network, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, the National Geographic, NTL's Front Row service, Skycache's IPMulticasting service and SVT Europa aimed at the hundreds of thousands of Swedish nationals living throughout the continent. Currently, Americom is expanding its satellite capacity and range of services for the European market including wideband data and regional direct-to-home services.
With over 20 years of experience, GE Americom is recognized as a pioneer and a leading provider of global satellite communications solutions. These solutions primarily provide the distribution of broadcast and cable television programming and digital/Broadband Data Services over satellite. With the launch of GE-4 in late 1999 and as an owner of Argentine satellite operator NahuelSAt, GE Americom is expanding its delivery of satellite-based communications services throughout South and Latin America. And with the early 2000 launch of GE-1A, GE Americom's satellite interests will reach more than 90% of the world's population.
