GE Americom Contracts with L-3 Communications for Trans-Pacific Service on Spacenet 4

September 12, 2001 Princeton, NJ GE American Communications (GE Americom) announced today that Communication Systems妨est, a division of L-3 Communications, has signed an agreement to provide high data rate communications transmissions between Hawaii and Korea. Under the agreement, L-3 will provide an 8 Mbps data service on GE Americom痴 Spacenet 4 satellite located at 172コE.L. In addition to the satellite bandwidth, GE Americom will provide uplink/downlink service via its Sunset Beach Teleport on the north coast of Oahu, Hawaii.

"We are delighted to be able to provide this valuable trans-Pacific service using L-3 Communications technology" said Cynthia Dickins, Vice President, International Sales Development, for GE Americom. "We池e very pleased that this recently-relocated satellite and our Sunset Beach facility are becoming increasingly valuable to customers whose trans-oceanic requirements continue to grow."

From its orbital location at 172ー E.L., the C-band transponders on Spacenet 4 provide intercontinental satellite service across the Pacific Ocean. U.S. access to the satellite is also possible from GE Americom痴 teleport in South Mountain, California, in addition to a number of 3rd party locations along the U.S. West Coast. Various teleports in major gateway locations in the Northern Pacific Rim and East Asia make trans-Pacific service readily available on Spacenet 4. GE Americom also operates TDRS-5, a second POR satellite located at 174ー W.L. Spacenet 4 will be replaced by GE-2i, GE Americom痴 next-generation satellite for the Pacific Ocean Region, in 2003.

GE Americom痴 Sunset Beach Teleport currently offers commercial third-party services, including video, data, telephony, and Internet connectivity, through an array of C-band and Ku-band antennas.

In addition, SES Global痴 strategic partnerships and participations in AsiaSat, NSAB, Star One, Americom Asia-Pacific and Nahuelsat will combine to give entertainment, Internet, news and enterprise customers access to a fleet of 42 satellites. When the transaction is finalized, GE Capital will hold a 25.1% economic interest and 20.1% voting interest in SES Global S.A.
