GE Americom Appoints New European Leader

GE American Communications (GE Americom) announced the appointment of Eddy Frankland as Managing Director, European Sales, Global Satellite Services. Based in London, Frankland will lead Americom's European sales team which includes staff in Munich, Budapest and other European cities where offices will be opening. With more than two decades in the satellite industry, Frankland draws upon a deep understanding of the operational needs for all types of satellite-based video, data, telephony and Internet applications. Most recently as the Managing Director of PanAmSat Europe, he worked with diverse customers throughout the region.

Americom's GE-1E satellite provides high-powered Ku-band service to European and Middle Eastern markets from the 5 degree East orbital position. Some of the regional and international customers and services on the satellite include Turner's Cartoon Network, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, Interpacket, Merlin services, the National Geographic, NTL's Front Row service, Cidera's IP multicasting service and SVT Europa aimed at the hundreds of thousands of Swedish nationals living throughout the continent. Americom is expanding its satellite capacity and range of services for the European market including wideband data and regional direct-to-home services.
