SES AMERICOM Delivers the Internet to 1500 Schools in Puerto Rico

Satellite Provides Cost-Effective Connection, Links Students to New World of Information

PRINCETON, NJ -- August 30, 2004-- On an island where terrestrial-based, conventional Internet access is often cost prohibitive and unreliable for educators, SES AMERICOM, an SES-GLOBAL company (Euronext Paris, Luxembourg and Frankfurt Stock Exchanges: SESG), today announced its satellite-delivered broadband service has been selected by the Puerto Rico Department of Education to connect more than 1500 Puerto Rico schools to the Internet. SES AMERICOM's AMC-6 satellite, orbiting 22,000 miles above the earth, is providing affordable connectivity, and, as a result, the sky is the limit for thousands of students island-wide, who have the Internet at their fingertips just in time for the new school year.

Working closely with Compex Corporation's Mobile Universe, the project's primary contractor and provider of wireless communication solutions, SES AMERICOM expects that 1539 schools will be connected to its satellite IP platform by September 2004. Participating schools are enjoying two-way broadband service via small satellite antenna, which is also capable of providing voice-over-IP (VOIP) telephone service between the schools and the Puerto Rico Department of Education.

"SES AMERICOM is extremely proud to play a part in bringing a whole new world of information to thousands of classrooms and students of all ages across Puerto Rico," said Orlando Skelton, vice president of enterprise solutions for SES AMERICOM. "Our AMERICOM2OfficeTM solution demonstrates the incredible power of satellite, when it comes to affordably connecting even the remotest of locations, regardless of terrain, with high-speed broadband access to the Internet and all the information and resources it offers."

"The satellite-delivered Internet access from SES AMERICOM is breaking down educational barriers across Puerto Rico," said Harry G. Garcia, CEO Mobile Universe. "As a result, teachers and students will have incredible access to content filter protected information without limitations, which we could only imagine until now."
