SES AMERICOM’S AMC-5 SPACECRAFT RECOVERS FROM ANOMALY

All Satellite Services Restored

September 25, 2003 Princeton, NJ SES AMERICOM, an SES GLOBAL Company (SESG in Frankfurt and Luxembourg Exchanges), reports that AMC-5, an Alcatel Spacebus 2000 launched in October 1998, lost earth-lock at 11:04 p.m. (EDT) on Wednesday September 24. As of 11:15 a.m. (EDT) today the spacecraft and the entire payload were operational and all customer services were restored.

AMC-5 was launched on an Ariane 4 launch vehicle from French Guiana on October 28, 1998. From its orbital location of 79 degrees West, the spacecraft has been operating reliably since November 28, 1998. The satellite has an all Ku-band payload, configured as 16 54 MHz transponders. Utilization of the spacecraft is for news transmissions, VSAT network support and occasional services.
