GE Americom Presents Pair of Customer Forums
Radio and Broadcast Customers Gather in New York City to Address Key Industry Issues
Key representatives from GE Americom's customer base recently descended upon New York City's Rihga Royal Hotel to exchange viewpoints on issues impacting the Broadcast Services and Radio markets. Americom periodically hosts customer forums to track the collective pulse of the industries it serves, as well as keep all customers up to speed on operational changes and transitions within the satellite fleet.
The Broadcast Services Forum, held January 10-11, 2001, featured presentations on Americom's interim spacecraft, which currently carry television, data, Internet and telephony services among the African, Asian, European, North and South American continents. These satellites will be replaced beginning in early-2003 by a new fleet manufactured by Alcatel Space - collectively known as GEi for its international footprint. Attendees also learned about Americom's new Satellite Transponder Availability Reservation System (STARS Online), which gives SNG customers 24/7 access to the company's occasional transponder space inventory through an easy-to-use Web interface.
Approximately 20 customers joined Americom's Carl Capista, Steve Bunke, Kent Verner, Gerry Kaplan, Mike Noon and Dany Harel at the fifth annual Radio Programmers Forum, held February 7-8. Americom representatives provided updates on the satellite fleet (domestic and international), as well as terrestrial and satellite operations. Customers were briefed on GE-8, which replaced Satcom C-5 at 139° W.L. on March 1, 2001, to serve as the home of America's premier neighborhood for the distribution of radio network programming. AT&T Alascom also purchased a large potion of the GE-8 communications payload to carry its interstate and intrastate telephony, voice and digital services for customers in Alaska.
Americom is hosting a Cable Forum in March in Arizona. Please contact for more information on future forums.
